    LOL

    Why bring up others?

We are happy with our D... as said its the best he seen in 30 years, then you have to chime in with well so and so was better

We dont care...We are not saying they are the best ever, just the best we have seen and yes for me better then 96-97...

so no need to bring up other teams

You *should* be happy. It's a darn good defense.

Uhh... that's how the rest of us rate "frigginawesome". *shrug*

We did not start a poll on best D, or did we? If we did then yes lets discuss the teams you consider GREAT and FREAKING awesome

We did start talking about the post season for THIS D and how it compared to the D in the regular season

Not the Packers from the 60, not the 85 Bears or anyone else

Just the Packers from the regular season to the post season

Why is it so hard for you to "get that" unless your trying to discredit our D?

Actually you didn't. Nobody made any contrast to the regular season. Go look yourself. If they had, I wouldn't have said anything. Maybe if you quit being all defensive and assuming people are out to "discredit your D" when they've had nothing but good things to say about it...?

I have used the following words thus far:
    pass defense: "decent"
    rushing defense "outstanding"
    overall defense "respectable", "darn good".

I went on to use the exact same word "respectable" to describe my own defense repeatedly.

If you see that as "discrediting", then the problem is clearly on your end, not mine.

I took the op to mean how awesome our D was during post season, cuz it wasnt like this in 1st half of the season

But why is it any of your concern....seriously?

You havent seen this D mature like we have..

So when you come in and say its not the best and not up to your standards..So effing what? We dont care thats the main issue here..

This was about the Packers D and how good they have played..

Go make a thread on best defense ever and then we will debate it...

But your standards and discrediting how he we feel is not needed in THIS thread

Once again your coming off as my D is better....so dont even discuss how good the Pack D is

Weather you want to believe that or not, that is EXACTLY how your nose in the air appears to be to us

The op clearly didnt want a Steeler fan telling him how much better other defenses were or how they measure their defenses.

    So why not just stop?.

That's nice. That's not how *I* took it and it's not how it was presented.

What's it to ya? I comment where I feel comment is warranted.

    Furthermore I don't particularly care...

It is, objectively, *not* "the best" and you admitted that yourself. And nowhere at any point in this thread, nor on this forum, nor anywhere else have I *ever* said that the Packers D is "not up to my standards". Why don't you argue things I actually say instead of things you're inventing?

*YOU* go do that if you want. I ain't interested.

There you go with your "d" word again. You show me where I've said anything to "discredit" them.

Funny, I didn't see that anywhere. Apparently your skills at divining what people want/mean is much more highly developed than mine 'cuz you always seem to see stuff that nobody wrote.
That can't be the case tho', 'cuz I definitely do *NOT* want this silly-assed bickering with you, yet here we are. Why don't *you* stop?

1 and 2 in points given up. 8 point difference. In my eyes both defenses are in the same league. I think it would be ignorant of one fan base to attack the other over defense. The packers have a better pass D and the steelers have a better rushing D. well see what happens sunday.

I still am sticking to my reasons..

I am sorry you felt wronged by me moving the thread but what WE were doing had no business in the op thread

    Thats why I moved it...

Our posts are still there..Or here...

None were deleted, just moved away

Packers: A #6 seed team beat higher ranked teams on the road. They won those games with their defenses.

Stealers: Higher ranked than the Pack, beat teams at home.

Now tell me; Never mind the numbers, which defense is better?
    The Packers.

The Stealers had it easy compared to the Packers.

The defense is better than just respectable. We are right behind you in pretty much every category. If we are a respectable defense then you guys are a pretty good defense. Im not saying we are a spectacular defense. Im saying we are a good defense.

I'm gonna edit the title, LTF, because I don't think that's what anybody is debating.

The packers have a better defense because we were a 6th seed? I dont really get the logic or agree with it. The steelers have a great defense. They played 2 great teams to get into the SB, dont downplay their accomplishments.

Don't be dumb saying our defense is better than theirs. Their defense is number 1 in pretty much every category for a reason. We are very good as well but the Steelers D is number 1 this year

I think it's fair to say that both defenses are close enough to leave room for debate. I'm not arguing which is better between the two, I'm just saying that neither one is what I'd call "friggin' awesome".
/that's what started this whole silly thread.

Slash, to end it, we all have the opinion that it is, indeed, "awesome" by league's standards. It hasn't given up a lead bigger than 7 points, it has the lowest QB passer rating, it is #2 in PPG with 15, it hasn't allowed more than 2 passing TDs in any game and 1 rushing TD in any game.

Postseason-wise, it hasn't allowed more than 14 points, and we faced the 3rd (PHI) and 5th (ATL) most prolific offenses in the league.

You can't compare those numbers to past defenses, due to the discrepancy of the rules. Defenders were allowed to contact receivers beyond 5 yards of the LOS (Mel Blount Rule) pre 78, and that altered everything in football. Further rules defending the offense were implemented, to the point that it is simply not comparable. In 76, 7 defenses had an average of 15 points per game or better, which is crazy by today's standards. In the last 5 years, only 7 teams were able to do that, and only once a team was able to keep opponents under 13 points per game (Ravens 2006).

Well, your opinion won't change, and ours won't either. Maybe we'll see sunday who's right...

What *you* were doing, Mister Moderator. The whole thing never would've happened if you hadn't insisted on imagining everything I've said here as some imagined insult and harrassed me about it.
And no, I don't feel "wronged". I just think it's chicken-**** to muck up a perfectly good thread and then hide your mess in the smack forum.

I don't imagine that Sunday will prove anything one way or the other beyond who's the better team this year.

The proof will (or won't) come by whether the 2010 Packers are regarded by the sports historians as one of the best defenses ever fielded. I don't think that's gonna happen for either team.

    Feel the respect.

(Aren't you the same person who was just arguing with me about how respectful all the Steelers fans have been?)

P.S. It's just as easy to find stuff in Smack as it is anywhere else.

P.P.S. I've been trying to dig up the links you asked for, but I've already spent too much time here this afternoon - will do more later.
