NFL reducing contact

The NFL and NFL Players association is thinking about reducing the amount of contact in the game. Does this strike anyone else as over-bearing? A medical director for the NFLPA hopes to lessen hitting by 20-25%, stating that anything less will not make a difference. While I enjoy watching a contact sport, I don't enjoy players getting carried off in strecters, but who does? The rules on hitting the QB have gotten a little carried away, now the Players Union and the NFL want to consider banning helmet-to-helmet hits for all ballcarriers and eliminating the three-point stance. What? Am I the only one that thinks that this is getting out-of-control?

was watching the color of the game?? today on NFL Network...

Fred Williamson nick named The Hammer...Played in the 60's would hit people in the head with his forearm..There are many others that did similar things...

Now-a-days that would be unnecessary roughness...

not saying that is acceptable but just goes to show how much the game has changed

I believe that hits that envision hurting people should be banned off of football.

But not the ones that aim to tackle the opponent, no matter how intense they are.

I have nothing to add to this, other than: you have the coolest user name ever.

It's all about tinkering with success until you break something. It's the American way.

Many people in this country become bored when they find success. That leads them to becoming miserable, stricken with guilt, which leads them into doing a 180 and championing everything that which conflicts with success.

It's exactly like the Marxist/socialist (however you wanna coin it, but it ain't capitalism) movement in this country that has taken root of 1/3 of the American populace. Tinker, tinker and tinker some more until you **** it all up.

It is quite amazing how history repeats itself - and so quickly?!?!?

I used to think of Billy Mays the pitchman until that post-mortem toxicology report. Now I think of Billy Mays chopping up a rail of "oxy clean" on the kitchen counter for breakfast.

I heard they were considering eliminating the three point stance. I guess you could go ahead and outlaw running plays then.

The league is going to be reduced to O Linemen watching the D Lineman count "5 Mississippi" while QB's play throw and catch with their receivers.

Let em play. They are grown men making millions of dollars playing a kids game. Who cares if they get hit, thats part of the game. I don't feel bad for anyone in the NFL.

I don't like how they want to reduce hitting, but want to create a longer season. Followed by this would be offensive stats surging and more debate on who and why greatest players deserve to be deemed great. Let the guys hit as they do now just try to ref the game better.

And the thing with Favre and Brady is that they know how to play the refs, just keep down after they get hit.

They should make it an 18 game season and only have two preseason games.

I don't want to take the topic off track but with 18 games a season would be pushing it way too much. The Colts are an excellent example this season why extending the season is not a wise decision. It may be all back ups playing at the end of the season like preseason games. Plus how many quality games could we get out of a season with less contact.
