Hey Steelers fans, I think some of the reasons you may be having a hard time coming on here is due to the magnitude of the game. It's the SB for crying out loud! All of our hearts are invested in this, on both sides we love our team and feel the passion. Try and understand that when you post something and somebody snaps at you it may not be directed at you directly. People are just emotional right now, everyone is so charged with SB energy. If this was just a regular season game, you wouldn't be dealing with all this. I really enjoy talking with a lot of you Steelers fans very much, you know your team very well just as us Packers fans know ours.

Around NW Ohio, Steeler fans are the most obnoxious.

I still think the Bears fans are the worst. :chisux:

But I will add this anecdote that just happened this morning. A old friend of mine who happens to be a Viking fan, called this morning to tell me the arrogance of Steeler fans is driving him crazy so he's decided to root for the Packers in the Super Bowl. This guy is a die hard Vikings fan who hates to see the Packers have success.

I live in PA and a lot of my own family have been talking smack and acting as if the Steeler win is a foregone conclusion. So I just try to dish it back. I put up the "12 time world champion sign" and my sister in law said, yeah but what have they done from 1996. I told her; "10 playoff appearances and 2 Superbowls while the Steelers had 9 playoff appearances and 2 Superbowls. You were saying" Then she said, "Well the better team is going to win, Go Steelers." I hope the Steelers team underestimates the Packers as much as their fans, but somehow I think their team is smarter than their fans.

I'm a Colts fan, so I have a bit of a different perspective. Last year, the worst fans were Saints fans. On the Colts forum, we simply couldn't get away from "Who Dat" as the response to everything. Not to say all Saints fans were like that, but the actions of those that were unfortunately took away from those who weren't.

The friction between the fan bases is running at an all time high right now, I've been around enough Steelers fans to know they are passionate about their team, but for the most part, they're decent people (as long as the Ravens aren't involved). Every team has its trolls.

There are plenty of people pulling for just about every team that have some bullsh!t bravado that I get tired of, but honestly, it is part of what makes football the sport it is. Do you see this kind of passion out of baseball fans (other than Yanks / Red Sox)? Any question as to what America's favorite sport really is?

I know it is easy to get wrapped up in the excitement leading into the game, but honestly, for me, this forum has gotten to be less enjoyable the last few days due to the mudslinging from both sides.

We could have fun with a "Who is better, Manning or Brady?" thread if you want. :happy0005:

Too many of those already. Sorry to say it, but there's nothing Brady could ever do that would make me forget about him attending Michigan. Strike one, two and three before he ever got to the NFL :)

I've actually gotten past the whole "evil Pats" thing and have a lot of respect for the team. Actually pulled for them a couple times this year. Of course, now that I've openly admitted that, I have to hand in my Colts fan card...

Hey, I'm the same way about the Colts - love the rivalry. Since we play you once or twice a year eveyr year, it's almost like ya all were never moved out of the division. I don't even hate Manning and his ginormous forehead like I used to. :D

At least nowadays we're not competing over who gets the first draft pick :happy0005:

    Kitten,
I understand where you're coming from, but I don't think that's an excuse for rude/ obnoxious behavior. IMO it shouldn't matter whether it's a preseason game or the superbowl. Homerism, excitement, and partisanship, sure. But trolling, flaming, and drive by posts? There's no game big enough to excuse that.

Haha, that's true. I went to school with Peyton, he had that same forehead in College.

And yeah, nice to on occasion be in a position to see which team can force the other into having a pick in the mid to late 20s while the other one ends up with one in the 30s. Of course, the Pats are draft masters, and usually have a ton of extra picks (damn you Raiders).

The friction between our teams used to be awful, but for the most part, it seems to have mellowed.

For many Pats fans, and probably many Colts fans as well, it probably came when Manning and the Colts got through Foxboro to go on and then win a Super Bowl.

I know my respect for Manning grew due to that, and I'm sure many Colts fans were less bitter after that, as well. :)

I'm not excusing it on either side. I don't think there is an excuse for rudeness. But I think we could have some more understanding of each other and where we are coming from. Maybe some forgiveness. I give all you Steelers fans mad props for having the balls to hang in here, it's a tough room.

I'm guilty of snapping too, I lost myself in a couple of those threads and later regretted my behavior. I'm sorry to anyone who I might of clawed. There have been times when I've wanted to shred a steel curtain with my claws, but honestly, can you expect much less of two fan bases whose teams are in the SB? Again, I make no excuses, I'm just offering an explanation why some of us act the way we do.

Absolutely, the Colts "slew their dragon" so to speak. It has turned into a fun rivalry between the two now, at least for us fans. No less passion, just fewer insults...

True. One of the Pats boards I'm on even has resident Colts fans who hang out all the time, like part of the family.

I like it better this way. We can all pile on the Jets :happy0005:

We have some Pats fans on the Colts board, great guys. The forum wouldn't be the same without them.

And, yeah, I'll pile on the Jets as well. More than enough room, right?

Divisional rivals are always seem more brutal to each other than to the rest of the league. That's why Packers hate the Bears and Vikings more than other teams/ fan bases would hate them. Also some fan bases go as far as to make other people hate that team. How a particular fan base acts can actually affect how people perceive and act towards that team. Eagles fans are a perfect example on how a fan base can cause people to hate a team that may have nothing to do with the team itself.

Also a lot of times you have no idea how much your team is hated until you travel outside of your given city. When I went from Philly to Florida, traveling by car, I was wearing an Eagles shirt and you would not believe the responses I got the further away from Philly I traveled. By the time I got to South Carolina, I wisely changed my shirt. People really hate the Eagles, and I think it has more to do with the fans than the team itself.

Just goes to show you, sometimes fans are a representation of their team. How you act can affect how people perceive your team. I think as fans, we owe it to our team to represent them proudly and not do anything to make them look bad.

I said this in another thread and I'm going to say it here for you too. Guys, we are fans of teams opposing each other in the biggest game in the NFL. If you came here to be best friends, stick around after the game, no matter what. Be respectful if we lose, and we'll be respectful if you lose. But 2 weeks before we face off in such a huge game is not a good time to come to our board to make friends, especially by talking up your team. Of course we're going to be on edge with each other, and disagreements are going to turn into smack talk.

It ain't about your opinion of what you think I'm projecting. It's about how you react to it. We say one thing, you take it a completely different way, and then you're attacking us for crap we didn't say. Then you wonder where all the animosity is coming from.
If you could just read what people type and take it at face value instead of trying to read into it meanings that aren't there, it would cut down on a lot of confusion IMO.

Again, this is a poor attitude for a moderator to take. "Why complain", "This is our house", "stop posting", "there's more of us than you"....

NONE OF THAT EXCUSES VIOLATIONS OF YOUR FORUM'S RULES. By *anyone*. Particularly moderators.

We do not allow this sort of behavior from our posters towards any visitors for any reason. Nor is it permitted on any other forum I've visited (even those of actual rival teams).

    Lemme show you something:
    http://www.packerforum.com/f8/kudos-stiller-fan-18790.html
^ That was my first post on this forum last year. I think that's a fine example of a respectful post after you lost. I meant every word of it, and my attitude hasn't changed.

And IMO 2 weeks before the SB oughtta be a fine time to make friends. I guarantee you if you went over to our forum with the attitude I've shown here, you'd get much better treatment than I and many other Steeler fans have been shown here.
The superbowl is no excuse to lower your standards for class. It's a time to raise them.

    Maybe it's just me?

    Now I got it.

It's all Packers fans fault for taking everything the wrong way.

And it isn't about what Packers fans opinion are but more about what your opinion is on how or why we react to what is said.

    Crystal clear....
