I could, but I won't. You want me to sit here and dispel a kooky conspiracy theory that even you don't believe yourself. Does that strike you as fair? Haters are gonna hate regardless and people will believe that garbage because they want to. Nuthin' to be done about it.
Bad calls happen. To everybody. The league does what it can to avoid them, but it's never perfect. Good teams win regardless, and losers whine about the officiating.

I will give you this: The Steelers were awarded 903 yards on penalties this year (tied for 12th) and assessed 716 yards (24th). But people see what they want to see.

As a Steeler/football fan, I resolved years ago that bad calls are just part of the game and I absolutly loath people/fans who use bad calls as an excuse for losing. Seattle fans need to forget about it and move on.

If you do enough research, I'm sure you will find data that points to any team winning or losing in any given game due to bad calls, why just focus on the Steelers. So what you say is a moot point!:tease:

Personally, I think the Steelers were the better team and would of/ should of won with or without those calls. Every team has had their share of bad calls, sometimes they do cost a team the game. Bears vs Lions and Bears vs Packers this year, for example. Two games where bad calls changed the outcome of those games. But for the Packers, we can't really complain about that game now, we are in the SB now. I think that when bad calls happen in the highest caliber game, the SB, people tend to pay them a lot more attention then they would a game during the regular season. I don't think those calls against the Seahawks would of changed the outcome of the game, I just think they influenced the course of the game. Your Steelers deserved that win, but I am talking about games where the outcome of the game was clearly the result of bad calls. I'm not saying people should whine and blame the loss on it, I'm just saying that it does occur and teams, fan bases have the right to be pissed off when it happens to their team.

Probably the focus on the Steelers might be because, you know, the Steelers and Packers are the only teams left playing this season.

But maybe that' sjust me. :happy0005:

I happen to agree. How about you there, Murgen?

    NFL Videos: Bettis calls tails

Pissed? You bet I was! But it was ultimately our fault for allowing the game to go to overtime. Pissed is one thing. Harboring some belief that the refs were in cahoots with the Lions? That's just plain childish IMO. The refs didn't hand Detroit that game, *we* did.

Let's hope there aren't any, right? That's certainly what I'm hoping.

I imagine it's very easy to say Seattle fans should forget about it and move on if you're a Steelers fan.

A regular season game, yeah, it's rough but that's the way it goes. It happens to everybody. A Super Bowl would be much tougher to get over, and I don't blame them. (A lot of fans of other teams recognized that they got jobbed, too.)

Holmgren actually took a big verbal swipe at the refs over that. I don't remember him being especially prone to that sort of thing, but he obviously felt they got screwed. That's saying quite a lot, to me.

How so? Either the bad calls cost them the game or they didn't. If they didn't, then it doesn't matter whether the game is preseason or the superbowl. They can be mad all they want. We've got the trophy in our case and it has nothing to do with the refs. End of story.

Let's just go with that and call it good. :D

I love how you guys make these declarations: "Move on!" "End of story!" "Nothing existed before 1970, period!" "We got the trophy with some help from the zebras but they had nothing to do with it, nanny nanny boo boo! Now shut up!" :rotfl:

The Seahawks' coach clearly thought it DID cost them the game. I know that no Steelers fan (or player) is going to feel like they deserve an asterisk over it, and that's fine. There are just a lot of other people who see it there, that's all. It's not your fault though - you weren't throwing the flags.

Glad we can agree that we both want a clean game on Sunday, at least in terms of the officiating. Can we also agree that we don't want to see anyone get hurt?

Holmgren is lucky he didn't get fined for running his mouth. As I said before, I don't think 2 bad calls were the game changer. Seattle had several dropped passes, 2 missed fieldgoals and several interceptions. I think they beat themselves.

I actually thought he did (but that's because someone told me he did - I don't have clear memory of it). Let me see if I can find that.

If he just would have waited, the refs would eventually admit they blew it.

Hold it right there. Before you go any further, you should decide what kind of discussion you'd like to have. Lumping us all together and attacking us is a surefire way to instigate a flamewar. If you don't want a low-road discussion, don't lead us there, okay?

Absolutely. Ask any Steeler fan anywhere (here, our own forum, down the street) we'll all tell you the same. We don't have anything but respect for your guys.

^Especially Kevin Greene, John Kuhn (Steeler alumni) and Matt Clay (who we regard as a *real* linebacker)

Ummm...I thought it was pretty clear that I was being satirical (surprised you didn't pick up on that) - but if you look around, you will see that my made-up quotes aren't that far from the truth. I've seen a whole lot of "PERIOD, END OF STORY!" type comments from Steelers fans. Maybe you're not like that (though you just did it in the post I was answering), but I'm getting a general impression around here that a lot of Steelers fans seem to believe it's up to them to declare when any given story is over, or when any given story begins (like when championships start to count).

As for the second bolded part, are you joking? Have you been reading this board? (And just to be clear: Now I'm NOT kidding.)

Nope. Not clear at all. sarcasm doesn't come across in text. But I will take it at face value and continue with the friendly discussion at hand.

Yeah. Have any Steeler fans been hoping for injuries? That's pretty tasteless behavior and I haven't seen it.
All the posts I've seen have been congratulating and respectful. Perhaps I'm looking in the wrong areas. Could you provide a link?

    I agree.

Seeing the posts lately from Stealers fans, they are looking more and more obnoxious.
At first they were being respectful.

But due to a few bad apples, they have inspired me to change my sig. pic (below) for now.

I really don't like seeing one of my favorite comic strip characters being ripped off and depicted in this way, but I will make an exception due to a few Stealers fans on here who have started to turn certain posts from being fun into pushing my buttons by being disrespectful.

I've always been amused by people who use the phrase, "Period, End of Story." As if people should view them like they are the be all and end all and indisputed expert of a discussion.

I think it's more like they've run out of ammo and have nothing left to back up their stance on the subject so they want no one to reply further....

No one is trying to be the end all, just saying it's been five years, whats left to discuss?

I think the feeling is becoming increasingly mutual. What I'm seeing is a lot of Steeler fans who are just trying to have a friendly discussion but keep getting insulted & trolled by a select few Packers fans who don't know how to act like they've been here before. Unfortunate.
I don't hold that against Packer Nation in general.

Well, thank you - maybe you didn't recognize it, but one of the comments I satirized was yours, and I used a laughing smiley. I usually do that when I'm actually laughing or just find something unusually humorous.

    But okay.

I thought you meant your fellow fans have been respectful in general (but it looks now like you were talking about wishing for injuries?), but that's just not true of all of them. There are a lot of comments that I just don't know if I have time to dig up links for, as they've been occurring over the course of the week - but from memory:

More than one Steelers fan has argued that our championships are meaningless. One argued that they were played "in the dirt" in "leather helmets" and that the "LEAGUE" started in 1970 (what a coincidence, eh?). One declared that we only have one Super Bowl trophy. (Uh...hello?) Many behave as though we don't stand a chance in this game...that it's a foregone conclusion they will win, the game is just a formality preceding the presentation of their trophy - it's just how a lot of them come off.

Really. Maybe you're nothing like that yourself, but I honestly am baffled at how you could miss it.

I don't know that I could find it, but one Steelers fans said he hoped to see some Packers "laid out" (I THINK that was the phrase) in this game, in what was a discussion about James Harrison's style of play.

I've personally argued with a lot of these people. It's all over this forum. If you really do need links, I'll try to find time to gather some - but I'd rather not spend time on it. Just look around. It's pretty obvious.

(Packer fans, if you have anything at hand, could you please link up a few of the things I'm talking about? Don't go out of your way - I can do it myself if I have to, but if it's convenient, I'd appreciate it. Right now I need to go work out.)

Obviously, there are people who feel there is something to be discussed. Not a matter for anyone else to tell them the subject is closed unless the mods have a problem with it.

The discussion about your championships ain't any more or less respectful than the discussion about whether the Steelers earned our win against Seattle or was "handed it" by the refs.

As for the Steeler fan "hoping that A. Rod" gets concussed, I didn't see it in that thread, so I'll just have to take you at your word and apologize on his behalf. What do you have to say for the Packers fan who "hopes James Harrison gets the death penalty" in that thread? Is that "respectful"?

Look in the mirror before answering. I see a lot of obnoxious behavior in this forum this last week, and I can count a whole lot more of it from one side than the other.
/can't we all just get along?
