I figure there must be a bunch of musical tastes on here for this.

The majority of my collection is classic rock.
Bands and singers that have either broken up or died or just not as much in the limelight any more.
So I'm interested to find some modern bands I could like.
I am not up on the current scene which is why I'm asking.

What I don't like or want:
    Bubblegum pop.
Anything with over saturated synth. or auto tune.
Dance music or stuff that is made for jus the beat.
    Rap and hip-hop.

    Examples of what I like/have.
I'm looking for bands that have the good ol' rock-n-roll feel.
Or good sounds with good lyrics, vocals and music.
    Tom Petty
    Bob Seeger
    The Beatles
    Oasis
    Sarah Mclachlan
    Sheryl Crow
    Fleet Foxes

    Any suggestions?

Just face it, you are OLD and are entering a midlife crisis. You hope to be hip again and the music is your chosen path.

To answer your questions, recently I have turned to Christian rock. No hip-hop or dance just pop style rock. Morally uplifting and my preteens can listen along without me covering their ears.

Well, that's one way of looking at it. I guess.

Yesterday I ordered a couple of Fleet Foxes CDs for the first time.
And I'm pleased to hear that this type of music is still being made today.
So I'm looking to expand my horizons a bit to see if there are any bands/singers today that make music that resembles in any way the style of classic rock.
There is some that is still being made by the likes of Tom Petty, Neil Young, Springsteen but I already have enough of that stuff.

Who is there of the recent generations that is making really good rock-n-roll?

If you like Fleet Foxes you'll probably want to check out Iron & Wine, Deer Tick, Bon Iver, Real Estate and Joanna Newsome. But imo this stuff is a bit different from the list you posted above.

If you haven't exhausted every release from all the guitar-oriented bands of the '70s that may be in the "classic rock" mold, you should seek out albums from Big Star and (if you haven't already) Cheap Trick's first three albums. Also, the first couple albums from Marshall Crenshaw are excellent, and still hold up.

You have Oasis on your list above. I always felt they were notch below the Stone Roses, whose debut album is better than anything they (Oasis) issued.

There is still excellent music being made every year, across many pop genres. But most of it never reaches the upper echelons of the Billboard charts.

Thanx for those ideas. I'll look them up on YouTube.
As for Cheap Trick, big fan already.
Was a dream come true when I saw them in concert for the first time.
Hope to see them for a third someday.

A couple of options.. some mainstream.. some not so much.

Some of the song writer types.. maybe a little lighter than desired.. but I enjoy them.
