    Lions release guard Verba

    February 28, 2007

DETROIT (AP) -- The Lions released guard Ross Verba on Wednesday after one season with the team.

Verba, 33, played his first four NFL seasons with Green Bay. The Packers drafted him 30th overall in the 1997 draft, and he played there through the 2000 season.

He spent the next four years with Cleveland, then did not play football in 2005.

During his only season in Detroit, Verba started seven games before a groin injury ended his season.

Ross Verba is an Iowa boy so I have to like him, but would be no interest to any team too injury prone.
