A few mentioned that being used to losing so often, he was the majic man for us. He was good but hurt often...I think he could have gotten us to a SB...Actually I think we would have gotten there a little sooner than Brett did. Only cuz Brett needed time to mature as a player and Majic seemed (just guessing as we never know) that he was more a smarter q/b at the time than Brett was
He had a different # at the start of his playing time.. We had his agent??? comment here a while ago about it
Well apparently with some info I came across it was Paul Horning's number 5. There was anticipation that it would be retired so Majik switched. Now I dunno if he was made to switch or if it was by choice.
Majkowski asked to wear a different number after his rookie season. He wanted a number people would associate him with, as opposed to always being reminded that he was wearing Hornung's old number. There were no plans to retire #5 at the time (although it remains in essence unofficially retired since kicker Curtis Burrow was the last to wear it in 1988).
No. His arm was shot. Just a question, but are we at the point where Favre's legacy needs burnishing by comparing him to Majkowski, a one season wonder? That would be sad.
I think we certainly could have won a SB with Majik - at least before the injury. One thing I will say. Nobody ever threw prettier ball in a Packers uniform.
If Majik had the team and coaching staff around him that Favre did AND if he could have stayed healthy, he could have won the SB against the Pats. I thought he was exciting to watch. Sent from my Kindle Fire using Tapatalk 2
Yeah that 1989 season was the FIRST GOOD & EXCITING season of my lifetime, and I had been a Packer fan since the late 70's. Sure we had a few fun years with D*ckey to Lofton, Jefferson, and Paul Coffman. But the teams still sucked. 1989 was the first good one. He helped us win at the great 49ers. Sterling Sharpe was so great. But Majic was clutch down the stretch of games, very fun.
I think I'm getting it now. He brought back some hope and light after everything had been dismal and dark. To use a volleyball metaphore: He tipped the ball and Favre spiked it. Would those be pretty accurate to describe things?
I would use baseball (or adolescent boy-girl stuff) instead. Majkowski got us to 1st base after striking out for 2 decades. At lease he got us on base. Favre got us to 2nd base, and 3rd base. Reggie White took us home.
I do too. I'm glad a couple of ya didn't forget the Minister of D-Fence who helped us out and give him his due credit.

Football is a team sport. And even though there are stars on both sides of the ball, sometimes one gets overlooked. Bringing up Reggie White creates other questions. Like: Was Reggie White part of the same team with Majic? Could Majic still have taken the team to the SB with the defense he had? I think Majic is one of those great "What if...?" questions.
Nope, I don't think that Majkowski was on the roster in '93 when Reggie played. It's important to remember how the rest of the team started to evolve (had to look this up). In that '93 draft, Ron Wolf drafted Wayne Simmons, George Teague, Earl Dotson, Mark Brunnel, and Doug Evans. All of those guys were bonafide starters (except Brunnel) that contributed to the Packers' ascent over the next few years. Brunnel was the first in a great line of Favre backups that were good enough to start elsewhere in the league, but they all provided great backup insurance in case Favre ever got hurt. Based on the acquisition of White and I would argue Mike Prior, along with that great Ron Wolf draft, things changed in a hurry.
^ Nope the majic man was gone when the reggie white era started. QB's during the 93 season were Brett Favre and Ty Detmer. Don't remember who the 3rd string guy was. We had a good defense that year, something like 40-50 sacks and a good number of picks.....that was long ago so my memory isnt perfect.
Also, Reggie helped to recruit other players for the Packers like Santana Dotson. Once Reggie joined the team, the players in the rest of the league got the message that the Packers were serious about contending.
OK let's get back to Majic time and not go off topic of the later Packers teams and players. Was any of you ever at Lambeau to see Majic in person and to feel the awesome stuff or winning ways he was bringing back after the drought?
