How true..........if we were "allowed" to get our OWN oil from Alaska or off of Florida, we could tell those people to KEEP their oil, or at least bring the prices down to reasonable. I'm all for protecting our environment, but there are other countries already drilling off the Florida coast! But the environmentalists won't allow us to get our own. Doesn't make much sense to me. So we are at the mercy of the Arab nations. If they cut us off, we are DONE!
We used to get our own oil from Texas. Now you drive through there, and see all the "dead" oil wells that COULD be supplying our country. It just seems stupid to me.

Well, we have the refineries, and if worst came worst, we would drill ANWR.

I just wonder how long it would take to get everything up and running, if we had to get our own oil. We would be VERY vunerable during that time.

Actually, Scientific America had a solution that is a win-win. The environmentalists and the patriots both win. It's solar power, but a huge project that takes up over 100,000 acres of the Southwest (where the sun is pretty much unlimited). The article said that that would supply us with enough power that we'll need exactly 0 foreign oil.

Unfortunately, it would have to get approved through Congress and since half of Congress are pro-foreign oil, not likely to happen. :(

You'd think the government would be all for it, cause it'd be cheaper for them, and they'd still make money off it. But greed is a hell of a drug.

Thats it........the oil is THERE, we just arn't "allowed" to get it! We would have plenty if the environmental people would let go of the trees long enough for us to "persuade" them to let us do it.
Then they will ride off in their SUV's and leave us alone!

The problem is it's not enough for a long-term solution. We'll eventually run out of oil because there's simply more oil being consumed than being made. yes, oil is still being made, but it's too slow a rate vs our consumption.

The sun will always be a source of energy (well, for the next 5 billion years before it grows into a red giant and eats the Earth). so that's why I think Scientific America has a good idea.

I don't know WHY we haven't used more solar power. I remember a few years back, when homes were getting solar panels put on them for heat. WHY haven't they done more with that? What happened that stopped that?

No thanks. Gas here is now $3.41 a gallon for regular. I think I'll start hitchhiking to work. Or maybe ride a skateboard or something.

I wonder if other parts of the country are that expensive. What are you guys paying for gas?

You know what really irks me? California has a lot of gas, and yet they know they can charge us more for gas.

It's like this - I used to live literally a football field away from where you get your strawberries from. No exaggeration. Strawberries were still more expensive at the local grocery stores than they were in Texas, where they had to truck them.

They really screw you living in California. The gas prices. The housing prices. The taxes. The price of food.

Well, at least we don't get tornadoes or hurricanes.

Don't worry Zombie...........then they will find a way to "tax" your skateboard per wheel.
(Months later, we see Zombie riding a unicycle to work!)

    In California, they'll tax anything.

Get this. I was so pissed off last night. I get a notice in the mail that by law, dental insurance providers will be required to be able to speak in whatever language you speak in. So guess what? They'll have to hire non-native speakers just for this stupid law. So guess who will be getting hire dental premiums because people in California refuse to learn English?

Who the heck votes on these things? Do they think our money here is unlimited?
