Jared is a very nice guy in person. He volunteers a lot for Veterans and others, and yes he likes to hunt. As for the killing of animals, everyone is entitled to their beliefs and I admire people with conviction, but I'm curious, should we hate football since the balls are made out of cowhide? I don't imagine the cows volunteer to become a football.

Rodgers and Allen are friendly off the field and on. What they had going on the other night was, in my opinion, nothing more than mutual respect and good sportsmanship. In my book that's something that should be promoted more throughout all of the sports, and is a good example for others to follow.

Yes, Jared's team was behind and yes he was celebrating being successful at his job; so what and good on him for it. Leaders on teams work to pump up their players and celebrating within reason is fine. Heck, I'd be pretty pumped if I just sacked the best QB in the NFL! Personally, when the Pack has been behind, I don't have a problem when the players celebrate executing well. For that matter, back in the pre-Favre years, I was always hoping for some celebrating since being in the lead wasn't as regular of an occurance. I think people should be upset if the reverse happens. When a team is trailing, I hate more than anything to see them be down in the mouth and unmotivated. Competitors compete, win, lose or draw.

What if it's mice? A few years ago a clan moved in my house during a snow storm. I killed those little crap heads one by one. Then I plugged up the holes for good.

This thread is weird. From Jared Allen to this?
BTW my cat does not kill mice. She is an old persian. She was born a diva and will stay this way.
I had a squirrel move in this last year. It got into the attic and when I sealed it off the squirrel made it's way to the basement. The dogs were going crazy and chaos ensued.
I trapped that invader and executed it. No second chance if you try to invade my home. I trapped another a few days later and the wife had me drive it to work and release it. It had rubbed the hair off the top of it's head in the trap in the transit to work. So I released a bald squirrel.
Animal rights folks can be a strange bunch. If you want to spare the asian beetles and basement spiders I get, come bring a quilt and escort them out of my home else I'm killing 'em.

Unless it's for self defense or unintentional, it's just wrong to kill anyone or anything no matter how it's done.
There isn't any reason to purposefully kill a sentient being who wants to do what you want to do.
And that is just to live.

Utter nonsense. Ever heard of the food chain? Our intelligence and ability to make and use tools puts us right at the very top of it. What is "wrong" is demonizing those of us who don't buy into your veganism.

After Jared Allen put that hit on Rodgers on MNF, he didn't get up, pinning him down for a bit. I was impressed with the Pack offense for immediately coming in to rescue their prize QB, pushing those Vike-villians the heck outta there and off of MVP A-rod.

Yes, so very 'possibly' true...(i say that because our common sense and compassion are so far behind) and with that intelligence and ability, we can also try use it to find alternate solutions. If we don't learn to have compassion to others less fortunate (or below us on the food chain), are we truly using what we have to the fullest? If we can't learn compassion, then how in the world do you think those that hate will ever turn it around? Are we truly that evolved yet?

I have purchased a few "live" traps and caught dirty stinking gnawing pestering annoying rodents in my attic and have driven out to the countryside to release them... thought about borrowing a friend's cat to do the deed, but couldn't stomach it, so just recently bought a whole bunch of "Fresh Cab" hoping that will do the trick before I seal and entry/exit holes...

back to the reason i clicked on this thread:

When the KC Chiefs let Jared Allen go, I was hoping we'd sign him... if the Vikings are ever dumb enough to let him go, I think we should try to sign him! Imagine both Matthews and Allen lining up to take down the opposing QB! :)

We are all one big family... [not trying to demonize anyone, just hoping to point out another alternative. (As Kirk points out to the "other" universe's Spock in Mirror Mirror episode of Star Trek (tOS)]
...now let's go out there on Thursday and show them Lions, we ARE even better than last season's Packers!!!

Go Pack Go!!!

"Fish are friends, not food." ;)

Is that why I haven't put any seafood of freshwater fish in my mouth since I was 4 or 5 years old?
Was a lacto-ovo vegetarian for 7+ years and then had to revert back to my carnivore nature... :(

I wanted to get a fishing rod like all my friends when I was 6 or 7..., but my dear mother said: "If you're not going to eat the fish after you catch them..., maybe you should just get an aquarium!" (smart woman, my mother) and I did!
Sad part is, i probably had more fish float belly up in my aquarium than I would have ever caught...

I have plenty of compassion. That's why I practice several weeks before I step into the woods to tend to the harvest. When I shoot, I intend for that animal to go down quickly, and they do. I don't take risky shots and have never had to track an animal more than 50 or 60 yards. Most fall in less than 15. I also do not hate what I kill. That's just PETA idiocy.

BTW, do you have any idea how many animals are killed in the farming of your veggies? Or how many are killed by cars? Or by walking across a field? If you do any of these things, don't get on to me about me feeding my family the best quality and healthiest meat available.

I am glad to hear that you have plenty of compassion! :)
Don't know if you read anything else i posted in this thread..., but I did NOT "demonize or get on" you for feeding your family the best quality and healthiest meat available... Heck, I even confessed i am back to being a carnivore again!!!
What i got down on you for was your "utter nonsense" comment earlier and for that I responded...
I have no beef with you... LOL

When i do see any animal lay dead on the road, my whole body goes thru' an uncontrollable spasm... has anyone else ever experienced that? Is it a normal reaction to seeing a dead animal's bloodied body?

Now something i hope we both can agree on:

That was one lame excuse Suh came up with yesterday, if he really thinks anyone believes him... he is OUT of his mind!!!

Hoping Bishop and Hawk can play against the Giants...

I eat meat but not the kind that comes from killing animals. Mine comes from the store.

One of my best friend's is friends with Jared Allen, even was invited to Jared's wedding I think 2 summers ago(he's in a famous country music band and that's how he's gotten to know a lot of pro athletes -Cutler, Scheffler, Hutchinson), and I've heard all kinds of things about Jared, good and bad. But he just said this about the Vikings, and the hellhole cities of Detroit and New Orleans, so I now have some more respect for Allen!

"I don't like going to Detroit," Allen said. "I'll be honest, it's gloomy, it sucks. Everything is brown and then there is snow on the ground. There's like Brownstones everywhere and I'm like, 'Awesome.' I don't know, I couldn't do it. If I had to live in Detroit, I think I'd just drown myself in the river that was across the way.

"I'm not trying to be mean, but it's just depressing when I go there," he continued. "There's two cities like I don't go out to eat or don't do anything. It's Detroit and New Orleans. New Orleans looks like I'm driving through a third-world country every time I get off the plane, I'm like, 'Oh, flak jacket.' I'm trying to get down. I'm like, 'Ah, crap, I can't carry my gun here. This sucks.'"
Harsh words.

Allen expressed frustration over the Vikings' struggles this season, but said the team still has a significant motivator to go out and play hard each week.
"Our goal right now is not to be the worst team in Vikings history," Allen said. "We need to win two games -- one win to tie it, two and two to beat it. That's our motivation."

Remember back in the late 1990s when lots of people hated Favre? Why? Because he beat their teams, not because he was a bad person. It's the same with Allen. You can nit pick about little personality quirks that you don't like, but when you face it: he's a great player, a good leader, and a good person. That gets my respect all day long, even if he does relentlessly chase and sack the QB on my favorite team.

I've always liked him (as much as a Packer can). There are only a couple of guys in the NFL who I worry about taking over a game when the Pack plays them... Allen is one Suh is probably the other.

flynsqrl, you do know what they do in meat packing plants, right? And you understand that this is what the Packers are named for??

Anyways, regarding Allen, he is kind of like my modern Troy Aikman. As a kid, I HATED Aikman. He was my least favorite player in the history of ever, and I especially hated his stupid yellow hair. But if I was honest, I hated him because he was so freakin' good and he frequently got the best of the Packers.
