LOS ANGELES -- Bryant Gumbel has given up his role as an NFL Network play-by-play announcer after two seasons.

The NFL Network said Friday it was looking for a new play-by-play announcer to work with Cris Collinsworth on the network's Thursday and Saturday night games.

"I thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to call NFL Network games the past two years, which was a new experience for me," Gumbel said in a statement. "But we've agreed that we'd all be better served going in different directions."

I always enjoyed him as a studio host (and even on "Today") and thought I would like having him back calling games. Nope. Glad they "parted ways"

They could have him do NFL Draft coverage.

"The Green Bay Winsconsins select Luigi Manningham from the Michigan Cyclops."

Thank God.

You took the words right out of my mouth. He was brutal to listen to. He's okay doing other things, but as a play-by-play announcer, he had a weak voice and no rhythm. He also referred to quarters as "periods."

So next we will see him doing commercials for "Kotex"
Gumbel: "Ladies, do you get bad cramps during your quarters?"

I don't know why, but my mind just works like that. I see a statement, and of theres a joke to be made there, my mind just cuts loose.
Believe it or not, i often stop myself from posting what comes to my mind.
But this,.......i just couldn't stop myself!!!

So is that a good or bad thing?
I learned from expierience...........back when i was in school (the class clown of course) i got myself in LOTS of trouble, because i didn't know when NOT to "share" what i found funny.
But it was never a dull moment!
I even had one teacher, who told me the one day when i came into his class, "AL, go to the back chair in the room, and go to sleep." (He was tried of me cutting up in class) so i obeyed the teacher of course, and took a nap!
