It needs to be said. Granted Alex Smith played vs. a tough pass rush but through most of the game I was thinking "This guy? In the Super Bowl?"

Flacco did better then I thought he would actually. But, he still needs to step it up.

Honestly I just wanted to start a thread saying they suck lol.

But, I am also happy the Pats get a real challenge in Manning in the SB and not Alex freaking Smith. I had no faith in Smith to beat the Pats.

    Eli can though.

    Alex Smith sucks.

I guarantee you...Had the Saints defense came out and played like the Giants did today, the final score to that game would have been 32-17. Look at the stats and I think SF was only 4-12 for 3rd downs against their awful defense, and they went 1-12 for 3rd downs against the Giants.

The 49ers had one of the best defenses all year, but their offense was nothing. Just Frank Gore doing all the work and David Akers breaking Jerry Rice's points record by kicking FG's all year long (which ain't funny at all...Rice got his from TD's, not 3 pointers and extra points)

I have had almost no doubt that if the Saints beat the Niners they win it all. They really blew it.

Giants got the gift of their lives when NO was beaten.

Totally true, and last time the Giants were in the superdome, they left feeling bad about themselves when the Saints racked up 49 on their sorry *** defense. Not a doubt in my mind that if they could score 32 on the 49ers elite defense, they would have scored 40-50 on the Giants.

The sad reality is, a New Orleans/New England Superbowl was the dream of my family since 2009. Even when they got Indy, they preferred to have NE. You can believe they are very, very very very disappointed.

Can you slap your family for me? The #1 vs #1 2009 SB was a dream come true. Peyton playing vs. his dads team. The 2009 Pats were junk. Indy was the only real AFC contender in 2009.

I know Pats fans who wanted the Niners to win so bad. Now they are all like "Well deep down I always wanted the Giants." Lies. They are scared of Eli based on the last few meetings. They would have had a circle jerk over facing Alex Smith.

I agree, it was a dream come true.
The only other time we had both #1 seeds in the Super Bowl was the Dallas/Buffalo rematch, and yeah I know how everyone felt with the exception of Dallas fans..Worst Super Bowl rematch ever.

Sadly I think the Niners will be the kiss of death next year. So many good guys will leave in free agency. They'll resign Alex Smith, don't know about Rogers or the other guys on defense.

I feel bad for Flacco. He did enough to win IMO. He showed up. He carved up the Patsie "defense" at times. Wilfork kinda owned the Ravens today so someone needed to block that fat ***tard.

I am going to just bash Alex Smith now. Seriously he even looks like a dork to me. Harbaugh knows deep down he can do better. He knows it. Can't have Luck though. He belongs to the Colts damnit.

I was watching the game tonight and thinking. "Smith vs. Brady"? Oh helllllll nooooooooo. That would have been the worst SB QB duel since Grossman/Manning.

Eli now.....Jesus. I hate to praise this sucker so much but what a tough SOB. Opie is hardcore.

They talked about resigning him before the playoffs even started. And if you call this season a "success" for him, you know he can do better. He had a MEDIOCRE season, average at best. He will never be the guy that throws 300 yards, and 4 TD's and wins the game for you. Harbaugh needs to draft a quarterback and mentor him into a west coast system. Alex is washed up, been through so many offensive coordinators and finally with a successful one, he proves again and again he is average at best.

I have NEVER been sold on Flacco or Smith. I don't ever see these two leading their teams to a SB win

Both Harbaugh's are a QB and a few other things behind ever reaching a Super Bowl.

You dont have to lead the teams to a SB, you just have to manage not to choke it away, look at the handful of terrible QBs that have won a SB

Ugh, which was worse, the headband or the fu man chu? I saw so many of those damn things here in Baltimore I wanted to pull a Jim McMahon and stick a fork in my eye. We now have a fairy well groomed city, at least for the time being.

I wouldn't say they sucked, they are just not elite or even great in Smith's case. If you compare them to Rodgers, Brady, both Mannings and Brees, of course they are going to look bad. Both Smith and Flacco have had good seasons respectively, but neither is Superbowl caliber. I think that's a better way of putting it.

Flacco did pretty decent once the first quarter was over. The game winning TD was....there.........

As for Smith he could use better receivers by far. I just don't have faith in him though regardless.

Alex Smith was 0-12 on 3rd down. Not going to win games if you can win on 3rd down.

Flacco doesn't suck that much. He's solid.

Smith on the other hand.....he's had his moments of great play but he's really just Mark Sanchez with slightly better decision making. Not exactly Captain Checkdown but he can't work the ball downfield. A lot of out routes and slant patterns.

Harbaugh likes to dance around the game manager label. But I saw the season stats.

    180yds/game
    1 TD/game

that's a game manager. I'm not a stats guy, but you can't look at that and say he's not a game manager.

Trent Dilfer was much better than Alex Smith, but Dilfer did have a lot of talent around him. Jamal Lewis and Shannon Sharpe plus a much better defense.

They aren't going to be able to do a whole lot with Alex Smith unless they stack the roster with talent at receiver and beef up the O-line to improve their ability to run and pass protect.

I can't argue this at all. It kinda sucks that his record was broken with FGs.

Which is exactly what the Niners will try to do in the off-season. Receivers and O-line. Bet on it.

That said, I think it'll be enough to win a SB. They almost did this year. I don't think there's anything wrong with a ball control offense. Moving it slowly is fine. As long as you get those 10 yards every 3 downs, what does it matter??? But that's where the Niners failed. And often in the red zone too. Hence Akers record setting kicks this year.

Reggie Wayne and Peyton Manning to the Niners? Jets? Dolphins?

Hey the Niners get brought up A LOT in terms of Manning.

Yeah... the Niners are probably Peyton's best shot at getting another SB ring before his career is over. That is if it isn't over already.

I just don't like the idea of "buying" a SB. I'd much rather see the Niners build a team thru the draft and do it. Bringing in Peyton would certainly do the trick but it'd be much sweeter with Smitty or Kaepernick. And they wouldn't be so strapped for cash after doing so.
