In his first big trade as Packers GM, Ron Wolf sent a first-round draft choice to Atlanta for backup Brett Favre. Wolf said he had the trade in mind since his first day on the job for the Packers. Before a game between Green Bay and Atlanta, Wolf studied Favre from the sideline in warm-ups. Then, over the next 2 1/2 months, Wolf weighed his options. The Packers also had talks about a trade for Steve Young.
