Random thoughts after Week 5

As impressive as the Packers' 52-3 win over the New Orleans Saints was, here's a few things to consider:

Given their nomadic life, after Hurricane Katrina, the Saints are bound to have some simply woeful performances like the one they had Sunday at Lambeau Field.

  • * The Minnesota Vikings' only win this was also came against the Saints.

    * The Saints have either been very good and miserable under Jim Haslett and have been little better than .500 during his five-plus seasons.
Etc.: Aaron Brooks' interception that Al Harris returned for a touchdown was one of the worst throws I've never seen an NFL quarterback make. Brooks locked onto his receiver, saw Harris make his break and still threw a hitch pass with no zip on it. ...

Packers coach Mike Sherman said Monday that Mike Flanagan will get his starting center job when he comes back from his hernia surgery.

Unless he's convinced Flanagan will be better than he was before the injury, Sherman should stick with Wells. It's no coincidence the Packers' offense has protected Favre better and been stronger in the middle of the line of scrimmage since Wells went into the game midway through last week's loss at Carolina. ...

Roy Manning has passed Paris Lenon as the starter at strong-side linebacker as long as Na'il Diggs (knee) is out.
