That's why I always laugh at NFL fans that make threads like this....I do nothing but shake my head.

Just curious...what did he say that made him sound cocky? Not being a smart ***....just didn't pick up on it.

the part where he said all the dirty work will be done for him. if that were the case then the vikings should of made the playoffs last year.

I think he was trying to humble himself by being on the same team with elite players in the NFL. He doesn't come off as cocky to me...I'm not just sticking up for him because he's a Viking...I just don't get that vibe.

I loved Rodgers when alot of Packer fans I know didn't. and he's cocky as hell now. You never know what hand you are gonna be dealt.

Example....I was absolutely furious when the Vikings took Peterson...when we already had Chester Taylor. I also think we gave up to much for Jared allen. I was wrong on both accounts.

The point is draft grades (or opinions) right after the draft are childish and stupid.

That his job was easy. You see, at Florida State he has no top offensive talent to throw to. In the last 4 years FLS has had exactly one other offensive player drafted into the NFL, and that was this year when one of the OL was picked. At least in MN he has people who can catch the ball. But he was a reach. Unless of course he turns out well. But hey, this is a Packer board. Remember when everyone said Peterson was injury prone and wouldn't make it 3 years? The more I read about Ponder, the more I like him. Now let's hope he's not a Couch. Or a Smith. Time will tell.

Sort of the same as on predicting who will win the division?

Basing a prediction on what appears on paper, thats what grading a draft is and saying who will win the division

Doing it for the draft is much more magnified, but still same principle

Cmon man...when you predict who will win a division the following year at least you know what cards your playing with. Making draft grades and laughing at peoples picks the week of is juvenile.

Everybody knew the Packers would do well this season. Not everybody knew Leaf would be that big a bust or Brady would be that good at pick 199. Apples and Oranges.

    I agree and disgree.

It is very different, they grade drafts based on names they know and perceived positions of need.

Predicting the season, you have much more known basis to work with.

That being said, as LTF pointed out, you're still guessing. Nobody would've thoght the Vikings would stink so bad last season. I, for one, didn't think they would be as good as 09, but I expected them to at least contend for a wildcard spot.

And that's in the division, where people have more knowledge. I had no idea about the Bucs' situation, for instance...

every year players come out of nowhere and are good/great who have already been in the league. some examples - arian foster, brandon lloyd, tramon williams, and miles austin. so its hard to predict correctly.

Ponder could be in for a very rough season. The longer this labor dispute drags on the harder the season will be for him. He not only has to learn the playbook, but it usually takes these guys a couple years to get to the point where the game "slows down". He'll have to have considerable time to develop chemistry and coordination with the rest of his offense. It's gonna be tough and he doesn't seem to quite realize just how tough.

It is a cruel thing for an NFL team to take a guy straight out of college and make him start. If he's lucky the Vikings will let him ride the pine for a while to acclimate himself to the NFL. If he's not lucky, the Vikings will throw him to the wolves (or bears and lions, not to mention the Pack) right off the bat.

Trust me no Viking fan I know would predict anything better than 8-8 for us in 2011. This is a logical reasonable prediction. Laughing at other teams picks...when you haven't seen the hand played yet is dumb.

Starting Ponder this coming season will be a baptism by fire. He'll have a few decent games but will get squashed into the ground like Stafford did and will end up on the IR mid way through. JMO, of course.

Maybe the Queens should hire old number 4 to be their QB coach. That would be another "smart" Minnesota move.

    LOL.

Actually, I have yet to see Viking fans talk about other teams picks at a Vikings forum. They sure don't talk about how the Packers picked like Packer fans pick apart the Vikings draft.

Maybe that's because most of them don't know the first thing about football.

Ouch. No need to get defensive. I was just providing a possible explanation for the lack of draft analysis on your own forums, but thanks for bringing the witty repartee of a Vikings forum here to the forum of the World Champion Green Bay Packers.

Or maybe it's because they don't have to ridicule or put down other teams and fans of other teams every chance they get. You know how to tell when a Packer fan is losing and argument with a fan of another team? They throw out the "but we have 13 championships" line. It's the last line of defense for Packer fans. My team has won more championships than your team so I know more about football then you. Happens all the time, so often most Packer fans don't even realize it. It's what your trained to do as a Packer fan.

Not once in the last 4 years have I ever read a thread on a Packer forum that stated the Vikings had a good draft, Peterson was injury prone, Harvin was wanna be pot head, and of course now Ponder is a reach. And the TE MN picked this year sucks compared to the TE the Packers picked rounds later. Fact is when it comes to the draft no one knows who the good NFL players are going to be and who's going to bust. Viking fans seem to understand that, Packer fans think every pick the Vikings made will be a bust and every one the Packer made will be a pro bowler, HOF candidate.

Exactly, we're trained to do that at fan school.

I refer you, however, to ivo610's post above.
