Chiefs | Team will likely look for top defensive tackle
    Thu, 18 Jan 2007 22:22:46 -0800

Adam Teicher, of the Kansas City Star, reports the Kansas City Chiefs are expected to target a high-quality defensive tackle this offseason, and unless one is released, they will likely have to look to the draft for one.

This might also pertain to EVERY other team that is looking to sign a DT FA...

Jenkins won't get to free agency. We'll place at least the middle tender on him and there's no way a team will give up a first round pick for him.

No such thing as a second round tender. There's either the low tender (no compensation because of Jenkins being undrafted), the middle tender (first round pick) or high tender (first and third round pick).

    2nd round tender

The CBA adds a second-round tender at $1.3 million this year, which means the club receives a second-round pick as compensation if it doesn't match.

General Manager Ted Thompson and the Packers' front office likely are debating whether to put a second-round tender or first-round tender on Jenkins, though with close to $25 million in salary-cap room, the Packers are in excellent position to match any offer Jenkins receives.

"It's just another avenue," Thompson said of the second-round tender. "It still winds up between the club and the player trying to get a deal."
