Is the Pack's medical team sub-par or something?? I mean, this ... and Sam Shields ... and Jennings ... guys looking for second opinions (at least 4 this season) before going in to have surgery, which is usually a good thing!!?? Just asking ... the Pack seem to have a lot of injuries that after a couple of weeks become "significant" (as they like to say).

Lots of injuries are in a "grey zone" where surgery might-or might not-be the best thing. It rarely hurts to be conservative in those cases. Remember, all surgeries carry with them the possibility of complications, and even without them, there is no surgery with a 100% success rate. I think the Packers' medical staff is just fine.

JBlood makes a good point but what I don’t understand is with all the money at stake why aren’t second opinions with experts in their fields a more ordinary course of business? As fans looking from the outside in there’s a lot we don’t know about football matters, let alone medical ones so perhaps there’s a good reason they don’t. But when Bulaga has a hip injury they tell us is difficult to diagnose, why not send him to an expert ASAP? Same with Benson’s injury. Surgery wouldn’t automatically follow so what’s the harm? And in some cases perhaps a third opinion would be appropriate too. What bothers me most is when a player gets injured and weeks go by and then surgery is performed (and not just so swelling goes down) – like with Jennings. Perhaps it wouldn’t have made a difference in his case. Perhaps experts would have advised waiting. But why not have them weigh in much sooner? Considering the size of their operating budget, it would be a small expense.

Odd, with Bulaga they said from the start "this is bad", but yet we dont really know what the injury is. a hip fracture? dislocation, legiments, nerve damage what?. Or maybe its not for us to know.

What is the deal with Shields?? He goes from having a bone bruise to now having an ankle issue and now a "setback"?

We can't keep a healthy running back in GB to save our lives. Benson is going to be a tough loss because he showed so much promise. I had a lot of hope in Starks be he as been plagued by injuries. I don't know if it's a problem with the medical staff or if it's just a run of bad luck but either way I'm praying it stops. The run game isn't nearly as crucial as it once was but it's by no means obsolete. We need a healthy RB to at least establish our ground game especially with the lack of pass protection generated by our O-Line.

TT's failure to make a move for Stephen Jackson or DeAngelo Willimas before the trade deadline makes this news even harder to swallow. The Packers are literally one injured back (beside Rodgers-that would end the season) from being in big trouble on Offense. Yes, we are 5-1 since Benson went down, but being a one dimensional offense is going to get tougher as the weather elements start impacting the games. All we can hope for is Starks to stay healthy and keep improving. Green at best, is a sub-par 3rd down back.

As far as the GB medical staff goes, they are batting like 1 for 6 this year, either bring some one in that knows something more or book a plane every Monday morning to take these guys to someone else who can actually get the diagnosis/recovery time correct.

Why do you mention those 2 guys who have a million miles on their tires and who don't have speed anymore, but you fail to mention CJ2K.
Chris Johnson, as I mentioned about 5 weeks ago, still is FASTER THAN HELL.
People said, nah, look at his stats.... he's lost it. NO good anymore.

Since I said that, he is averaging 117 yards per game since Week 4 and is also on pace for the second-highest rushing total of his career.

Johnson had 23 carries for 126 yards and one touchdown, snapping Miami's 22-game streak without allowing a 100-yard rusher.

Johnson continues to impress and has over 90 rushing yards in six of his past seven games, boasting an average of 117 rushing yards per game over that span. Included in that was 141 yards vs Chicago.

Remember, on Tennessee, defenses totally focus on stopping #28. On the Green Bay offense with Rodgers and all his weapons, defenses would not be able to focus on stopping #28 as their key target. If they did, Rodgers would shred them like parmesan cheese.

Honest question, Rizzo; do you think Johnson is smart enough, patient enough, and self-less enough survive in GB's offense? Way fewer carries. Major pass-block responsibilities.

Frank, I was merely mentioning 2 players that were rumored to be on the trading block at the time of the trade deadline, Chris Johnson wasn't one of them. Nor do I think the Packers wanted to trade for a guy that is due a $10 million salary next year, $9 million of which becomes fully guaranteed the week after the next Super Bowl. I won't even go into reason why Johnson doesn't fit the Packers scheme, since that wasn't the intent of my original post. Which was TT may have screwed up by not trading for a quality short term running back (that fits the Packers scheme), in case Benson isn't back for the playoff run.

I do..... I think he is what we dreamed Alex Green could become, almost......

But he's right that it's unrealistic because we need a ton of $ to extend Clay & Aaron, and hopefully Raji and I wish Jennings. Too many good guys.

That was kind of a tongue in cheek comment about drafting Ball. Montee is a "great" back only because of the WI offensive line. With an average line, he would become average. Much like Clay, Dayne, Moss, etc the offensive line makes any running back look great.

Which is why I hope TT uses his first few picks in 2013 on O lineman, Rodgers can't stay healthy and we can't beat good defenses, with the sieve he is playing behind.

I have to agree with this especially knowing TT's drafting tactics. He wouldn't draft a RB with his first few picks anyway. I'm also hoping they go where we need them the most, O-Lineman. I say hope because knowing TT's draft tactics he wouldn't use them on O-Lineman no matter how dire the situation was.

My hope would be that TT actually visits the Free Agent market where quality O lineman are usually available, but we all know that isn't going to happen. I think the Giants, the 49'ers and even the Seahawks showed us what teams can do with a good solid O line (as well as a great D line). I'm not giving up on the Season, but both lines have to play much better if we want to go very far. I'm tired of cringing every time Rodgers drops back.

The NFL medical community is a very small fraternity, and team Drs. and trainers are talking to each other and other specialists constantly about injuries. I'm sure much of it is without names attached, but the staffs are always looking to take the best care possible for their players. Green Bay is no different than any team.

Not sure if Campen is the problem, he has done a pretty decent job since 2007, with what he has to work with. Talent and depth seems to be more of the problem. Was it just me or did Newhouse look like he was moving in slow motion as everyone went around him last night? With this line and no running game, Rodgers can't afford to sit in the pocket, I think he needs to roll out more AND get back to the no huddle offense, stop giving those defenses time to rest and substitute.

Are there any doctors on this forum? There seem to be a lot of ignorant folks talking about how easy it is to diagnose medical injuries and put accurate rehab schedules out for public consumption. Blab all you want about how other teams "seem" to know what's going on. Fans crucified Sidney Rice and the medical in Minnesota for similar problems that crept up. This happens to all teams. Until they start making NFL players out of metal parts, and can get an accurate repair schedule from the Parts Department, you will all need to sit on your hands like good little kids until your favorite Packer players are ready to come out and play again!
