I hated Atlanta before, but now... I HAVE NO F* ING RESPECT for them what-so-ever. Chop blocks are "legal," but just aren't used as a whole in this league because of the nature of it being pansy and the risk of injury.

Crumpler chopped his "boy," Julius Peppers, in the first quarter of last Sunday's game with Carolina. Peppers had to helped from the field, left to go to the locker room for tests, and was fortunately able to return. The VERY FIRST PLAY after returning, Atlanta again went for the chop and Peppers had to leap to avoid it. Mike Rucker was also chopped and left the field with a lower leg/high ankle sprain.

THIS IS BS. IF you aren't man enough to block a player, you have no business being on the field. The worst part is that Atlanta's offensive line coach teaches this "technique." In fact, the team routinely removes it's starters from the field in practice on goalline situations because of the OLine's practice of chopping players down. Here is an excerpt straight from the horse's mouth (and I do mean that in every derogatory sense I can muster):

    From the Charlotte Observer:
    Falcons Notes

    Ex-teammate delivers hit on Peppers

The Panthers got a scare early in the first quarter when defensive end Julius Peppers had to be helped off the field and treated on the sidelines after getting blocked low on the side of his left leg by former North Carolina teammate Alge Crumpler, the Falcons' tight end.

Peppers later re-entered the game, but the block looked like the kind that could have resulted in a serious injury.

"It was just a backside cut block," Crumpler said. "I've done it all season. That's my boy. I love him to death, (and) don't want to hurt him."

But Crumpler said he was concerned Peppers might've been injured.

"A little bit, but play goes on," Crumpler said. "...It was no ill will -- ever -- when it's against him. But if it's anybody else, I might try to get 'em." -- Charles Chandler

"I MIGHT TRY TO GET 'EM!" Should be a one game suspension or fine just for saying it. If they can fine a player for commenting on poor officiating, they should fine a player for making such a claim. He best watch his F* ING backside on the field. Pro Bowler my arse.

This is how you beat a chop blocking team....

    1. Fake like you are comin' hard....

    2. Stop short in your tracks....

    3. When blocker falls to the ground...

    4. Kick him in the nutssszzz as hard as you can..then step on his neck....

    (Believe me...there won't be a second time...!)

it boggles my mind that this is 'legal' and the 'horse collar tackle' is a penalty.

I agree. I think what's even worse is the roughing the passer penalties...this is still football, right? I heard one official say, "personal foul..roughing the passer..defender pushed him to the ground". C'mon, give me a break!?! :-?

I do agree..........to perposly chop someone, which might end his career should be dealt with SEVERELY. The fact that some teams TEACH this......the coach that does should be banned from football for life!
And yes......they are taking this "protecting the quarterback" thing too far in my opinion. They are turning them into pansies! The roughing the passer penalty called on the Bears player last week when he tackled Favre in my view was NO foul. He did NOT drive Favre into the turf, as the ref said. I watched the replay, and it looked like he just followed through on his attempted sack. If they want the NFL to go this way, why don't they just put FLAGS on the QB's, and if the defense pulls the flag off, it's a sack. (Yes, i'm being sarcastic! LOLOL!) :D
