Ryan Grant: No chance

Jermichael Finley: You know Aaron Rodgers is going to campaign for him. However, would an impressive showing by Quarless or another youngster or an injury change plans?

Scott Wells. Very little chance.

Johnny Jolly. I'm not even sold on him making it out of preseason. Depends on how much he'd want but I highly doubt it.

Jarrett Bush: Yeah... he's that versatile type of player that TT loves and he's still pretty young. I think we can nab him at 3-4M per year.

Ryan Grant - If he has a 1200+ yard season, then yes. (Likely? Probably not)
Jermichael Finley - I wouldn't doubt if we extended his contract this year if he starts out on all cylinders.
Scott Wells - Unlikely unless TT wants another old OT
Johnny Jolly- No
Jarrett Bush - Another definite yes for me. Arguably one of the best special teams players in the league now and if TT didn't release him while he was bad, why wouldn't he resign him now that his skill is catching up with him?

Grant is one that I'm not sure about. I know people are high on Starks but Grant is a 2x 1200 yard rusher, something I doubt Starks will ever be.

If Finley plays 13+ games this year, they need to re-sign him. Letting a talent like that go just can't happen. Jolly is obviously gone. Jarrett Bush has made the most stupid plays on the team during his tenure. My least favorite Packer and I hope we let him go.

Scott Wells should be re-signed. Center is one of the most important positions on the team and few people realize that. He makes all the line calls (which is really critical) and we very rarely (I can't think of one from last year) see a botched snap between Wells and Rodgers.

Ryan Grant - this is dependent on this year. If he loses a step nope he will most likely move on.

Jermichael Finley - High priority to re sign him.

Scott Wells - I think he may be a priority. Rodgers will most likely advocate for him to stay in the mix.

Johnny Jolly - gone.

Jarrett Bush - could very well be dependent on this season on ST and in back up duty. If he's reasonable he could stay with good performance where needed.

Matt Flynn - Dont really see him staying due to teams needing QBs.

I think Ted put the team in the position that they dont NEED to resign Finley. will he? I dont know, but his drafting speaks volumes.

If Finley stays healthy and keeps doing what he can do, I think there's no way we don't sign him again, I'm sure he'll get paid nicely too. He's just too rare a talent to let go.

If finley stays healthy and produces the way he has been projected to years in a row they will hopefully lock him down. Rodgers throwing to Jennings and Finley for years to come has defensive coord. banging their heads on a wall. The way McCarthy moves these two guys around they are match up nightmares. As far as grant i think he is out the door. Wells is kind of a toss up depends on how much money he and his agent are looking for. Jolly, well i dont think he will ever be back on the pack. And while Jarret Bush is a liability when injuries force him to play on D. He is by far the best special teamer we have and is valued enough by the team that he is a Captain so i think the packers will look to keep him around as well

IMO Grant is gone after this year, he won't be extended. While he won't be "old", he's put on a lot of miles and old for a RB comes quicker than at many other positions. Plus his replacement is on the roster.

Wells will be on the wrong side of 30 and gets extended only if they have no confidence in the player(s) behind him. But that's not generally the Thompson way so my guess is this is Scott's last year as a Packer.

Bush is an interesting player. Some Packers fans seemed to hate him and his too-frequent screw-ups reinforced their opinions. But his combination of fearlessness, size (stronger than he looks) and speed are valuable on STs. I remember many were surprised when the Titans offered him a contract at about $1M/year in the spring of '09 and as I remember it, the Titans weren't the only ones interested. Then some Packers fans were even more surprised/angry that Thompson matched the Titans' offer. He will still have value as a ST's ace (he ran down quite a few punts last season) and his Super Bowl INT was not luck but was the result of his studying PIT's tendencies. Whether or not he gets extended may depend on where he is on the depth chart of the defense as it seems the Packers are taking a look at more and more ST's specialists, like Ryan Taylor.

I agree Flynn will be gone.

The NFL may make Jolly's status a moot point. If I were Thompson I'd waive him rather than wait for the next shoe to drop in the ongoing saga of Jolly's addiction to codeine.

That leaves Finley and if he's healthy he will probably be their main focus. One of the advantages of the way Thompson builds and maintains the roster is big name free agents don’t skew salaries at different positions on the team. For example, if Jones received a "mega deal" that increases the price to extend other WRs and probably Finley who probably views himself as a quasi-WR.

EDIT: Aren't the other '08 draftees deals up too: Nelson, Sitton and Pat Lee? I believe so and of that group IMO Sitton is by far the most important and he may be approached to extend his deal before Finley is (they'll want to be sure Finley stays healthy). I would favor extending Nelson too but Sitton and Finley are both at the top of the list IMO.

Josh Sitton Contract, Salaries, and Transactions

Jordy Nelson Contract, Salaries, and Transactions

TJV is correct. Josh Sitton and Jordy Nelson are also due in 2012.

Pat Lee will be lucky to make it into 2012. I really can't see Nelson re-signed now that Jennings and Jones are paid.

I'm not sure about Sitton. You gotta think about how much the Arizona Cardinals paid Daryn Colledge (5yr, 27M) and Sitton is much better and younger. I'm not convinced that they'd give huge money to a guard no matter how good he is... tackle maybe... not guard.

I would agree with you about Sitton, JoshuaRHuffman but IMO if he stays healthy, he's on the verge of several pro bowl appearances. When Thompson became GM the "poison pill" (a huge roster bonus) in Wahle's contract prohibited him from extending him, but that's not the case with Sitton and this season I am hoping Thompson can get a deal with a fantastic OG who is on the verge of being one of the best in the league. But you're right about how Thompson - and his mentor Wolf - view OG. It is near the bottom of the priority list as far as positions go. But here is one reason I think Thompson should make an exception and extend Sitton: Ndamukong Suh identifies who the toughest offensive linemen he's faced in the league so far in this YouTube video:
[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uGmLKPqzROA"]YouTube video[/ame]

I have great respect for Suh's talent. I would hate to face the Lions with even an average OG trying to contain Suh. Sitton also provides the kind of nasty attitude I love to see in offensive linemen. And extending Sitton wouldn't be an exception to Thompson's Way in this respect: He would be extending a core player he found in the draft. I hope he can get it done sometime this season. IMO Josh Sitton is exactly the kind of player I would like to see the OL built around, even it he's "just" an OG.

Agreed. Derek Sherrod and Bryan Bulaga are the only certainties on that line right now for 2012. Chad Clifton could also potentially retire.

To me it still boils down to finely (barring another injury plagued season) being the number one buy we go after. His presence on the field simply takes our offense to another level of explosiveness and the match up problems he creates are unmatched by any other receiving threat we have imo. After that I think obviously Sitton should be a key priority. My guess is that TT will decide whether or not to keep him based on the contract he is willing to sign. I hope we can snag both.

TT always does stuff during the season if he loves the player. Im sure we will see a few contracts handed out in the next couple months.

I think Ted will resign both Sitton and Finley, if he was willing to give that much to A.J. then he has a plan.

I dont know if this has been said already but I think that by signing Jones, Jordy Nelson will likely be gone. Depending on injuries maybe they could bring back DD if he is willing to restructure his deal and be the #4.

They'll absolutely pay Sitton. We're talking about one of the best Olinemen in the league PERIOD, including tackles. Now add that he's 24... Colledge was only OK, and MM wanted Lang to have that spot anyways.

Is it bad that Finley is the only player I care about getting back? He'll demand a big contract after the big year he is about to have, but the guy is a freak.

Grant will be 30+ and asking for a new contract... History says STAY AWAY. Starks and Green are young and shouldn't have trouble taking over.

I would like to see Wells back. He shouldn't be an expensive signing.

Jolly shouldn't make the team this year.

I've been waiting for Bush to leave for years now... No room for the guy.

I also only care about Finley, really. Don't get me wrong, all of them had been great, great Packers.

But we have Grant's replacement in Starks.
Jolly was only good against the run anyway, and the guys currently are better than him.
Wells would be the most missed, as we don't have any current clear replacement for him, but we need to upgrade that position, he brings close to nothing against the run.
And Bush, he's our best ST player, but it took him so long to get there, I don't think he'll ever be much else. Another position where we could upgrade.

Finley is just irreplaceable. Not that we need him, there's only really one player on this team we actually need, and that's Rodgers. But he's so talented, he's such a mismatch, there's only one guy like him in the NFL, and it's Gates, but he's 31. Finley is 24.
